About the Event

The event will be an opportunity to explore the relationship between planting and trees and teaching and learning, including teaching about trees and how trees can inspire learning (about nature and learning generally).

This is an extension of the existing HKU Digital Arboretum which can be viewed at www.digarb.hku.hk

The event will be a mixture of:

  • Short mini-Ted-Talk lectures, led by teachers talking about their experiences, successful teaching techniques, critiques of the current level of teaching in this field

  • Students’ feedback and experiences, successful teaching techniques, critiques of the current level of teaching in this field and,

  • Project and table activity organisers

A mini educational fair with table activities and demonstrations, and possible outdoor activities like tree climbing, tree identification, and tree planting or removal of invasive species, taking advantage of the beautiful and verdant surroundings at the venue.

Information and activity tables could include schools, environmental organisations, nature teaching organisations, artists, community farms, student projects.

The event would finish with a panel session and/or a whole group feedback session on "What's next for planting knowledge!?"

Who is it aimed at? Teachers (school, tertiary, and public education) and learners about nature, planting, and trees, and anyone interested in improving nature-orientated education.

Where will it be held? HKU Kadoorie Centre https://www.kc.hku.hk/

It’s an event that will form one of the deliverables for an HKU Teaching Development Grant Project entitled “Digital Arboretum and Planting Course Gallery - Phase 2 Building a Community of Enquiry”.
